The NebulOuS Project recently made an impact at CLOSER 2025, the International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science held in Porto, from April 1st to 3rd, 2025!
Our participation in CLOSER 2025 was all about sharing knowledge, fostering discussions, and highlighting the innovative work being done within the NebulOuS framework.
Deep dive into the cloud continuum: the NebulOuS panel discussion
A key highlight of our participation was the insightful panel discussion titled Advancing fog and cloud computing continuums: insights from the NebulOuS R&D project. This session became a dynamic platform to spotlight the core innovations, milestones, and future directions of our Meta-Operating System and platform, a novel platform designed to orchestrate resources seamlessly across edge, fog, and multi-cloud environments.
Our expert panel navigated the evolving complexities of the cloud continuum and discussed how NebulOuS is addressing them with real, scalable solutions. From latency-sensitive applications to distributed AI workloads, we explored how the Meta-OS supports a smarter, more flexible digital infrastructure.

NebulOuS Meta-OS: a versatile solution for real-world impact
One of the defining features of the NebulOuS platform is its versatility. Our Meta-OS is not just a technical framework, it is a powerful enabler of transformation across multiple sectors. Whether in smart cities, industrial automation, or critical infrastructure, it provides a cohesive and adaptable foundation for intelligent service deployment and resource management.
Crucially, NebulOuS has been designed with sustainability at its core, aligning with the energy efficiency guidelines of the European Commission. The platform includes advanced mechanisms for monitoring and optimising energy consumption, allowing for dynamic workload allocation that reduces carbon footprint while maintaining high performance. It is a step toward greener, more responsible computing, without compromising on capability.
Real-world impact: showcasing NebulOuS pilot use cases
What truly brought our vision to life was the showcase of our diverse and impactful pilot use cases, demonstrating the Meta-OS in action: we demonstrated the versatility and applicability of our Meta-Operating System in real-world scenarios, illustrating how transformative our solution can be. These included:
- Fresh food supply chain optimisation in urban settings;
- HeonICT: digital transformation for connected infrastructure;
- DYEMAC: smart control in manufacturing environments.
These real-life scenarios illustrated how NebulOuS is already delivering value, enabling efficiency, reliability, and adaptability across varied domains. They left a lasting impression, proving the NebulOuS Meta-OS is not just theoretical, it is operational, effective and transformative.
