CHALLENGE #1

Workflow Application

IoT-based energy management system for homes and small office buildings

Description

The “Harmonized Energy Optimization: Next Level IoT for Harvesting and Consumption Technologies in Homes and Small Office Buildings” (HeonICT) project proposes an innovative solution to the challenges of energy management in homes and small office buildings. Leveraging the NebulOuS platform’s capabilities, this project aims to optimize energy consumption and enhance the use of harvested energy through an Internet of Things (IoT) framework. HeonICT focuses on balancing the harvested energy from photovoltaic sources with the energy demands of high-consumption devices like heat pumps and electric vehicle chargers. The project integrates various proprietary IoT devices and real-time data analytics, ensuring energy is used efficiently to achieve significant economic savings. By minimizing dependency on grid energy and strategically managing the feed-in and consumption of harvested energy, HeonICT addresses both sustainability and cost-efficiency. Utilizing the NebulOuS platform’s cloud computing resources, HeonICT will implement scalable machine learning and AI technologies to predict and manage energy needs dynamically. This approach allows for continuous optimization and reconfiguration of energy resources across cloud, fog, and edge computing layers, ensuring that energy consumption always aligns with supply conditions. As part of the broader Nebulous open call, HeonICT aims to demonstrate a practical, scalable IoT solution for advanced energy management. By integrating state-of-the-art technologies and smart processing power, the project will not only meet the operational goals of the open call but also contribute significantly to environmental sustainability and economic efficiency.

“Our ambition is to enable homes and small office buildings to optimize their energy consumption and production in a way that is both economically and environmentally sustainable.”
