Virtual collaborative gamification in group physical exercises enabled by NebulOuS

CHALLENGE #2

IoT Application

Revolutionary new type of collaborative boxing-inspired gamification based on MotionXRays technology and enabled by NebulOuS

Description

BoxingAnalyzer system, which is a new type of boxing training software which extends ordinary training with: a) wearable sensors (includes not only HR sensing, but also accelerometer, gyroscope data) and b) advanced edge-based AI (to provide advanced methods for analyzing collected data and calculate complex biomechanical parameters from wearables data.

This provides a new type of collaborative fitness gamification where the trainees can compete (e.g. boxing) in a distributed fashion.

It consists of the teams of 3-5 players who are punching the bag for one minute each, whereas for each punch the system calculates important biomechanical parameters (velocity, force, power) which are used for getting the total punch points for all players. Based on these points, the system generates the leaderboard, as presented in the following figure (original in Serbian language since the usage of the system is currently focused on Western Balkan).

Main technical advantage of this innovation is that the virtual collaboration can be achieved by using “only” wearables technology and processing on the edge (smart phone) and not some complicated (and expensive) VR technologies (equipment), whereas the most important aspect of the collaboration is the real-time exchange of the precise biomechanical data (and not the virtual interaction between players).

Main application advantage is that completely new types of competitions can be organized, enabling new types of the entertainment (and new business models). For example, different types of punching can be allowed by the players in the same team, enabling various team composition strategies. Another example is that the number of punch points depends (negatively) on the differences in the number of punches between players from the same team – since the punching is performed virtually (no visual contact) and in the same time, the players should “anticipate” how other team members are punching. Even new types of competitions can be introduced on the fly.
